Strategic Plan

Town Vision

In 2018, Lauderdale-By-The-Sea accomplished something collaborative and rare. The Town implemented Strategic Plan priorities to stay economically competitive and fiscally sound, while staying to true to its vision of authentic small-town character. The gorgeous beachside plazas and amenities created under the plan have become the heart of community social life and essential to the charm of the Town.

Features that residents and visitors love, like the relaxed, small-town atmosphere, the easy walkability of the Town, the many dining choices, the retail offerings, and the traditional festivals, have been improved and expanded over time. The Town is branded with the attributes of an amazing shore diving destination and distinctive MIMO architecture, and the reinvigorated hospitality industry is vital to our visitors and economy. In a world where one city looks like another, Lauderdale-By-The-Sea is enviable and distinctly different.

Town Mission

Our Mission at the Town of Lauderdale-By-The-Sea is to deliver local government services efficiently, effectively, transparently and with integrity; to be responsible and careful stewards of the public’s money and assets; to provide leadership for the protection and enhancement of the Town’s essential character, natural resources, and economic vitality; and to foster and be respectful of positive public participation in the work of governing this Town we love.

Looking Ahead

2024:
Lauderdale-By-The-Sea sought to update its vision, mission, and priorities defined in its previous Strategic Plan. Completion of most priorities in the 2016-2018 implemented plan, coupled with continuous change in surrounding areas and their impacts, lead the town to develop new strategic initiatives.

January 2025
The Town Commission reviewed and adopted a contract to work with local government expert James Titcomb, an active Town Manager himself in Palm Beach County, to assist town officials, the administration and staff in identifying community priorities to update the town strategic plan.

Input was gathered during small focus-groups, individual interviews with our Town Commission, meetings with Town staff and the business community, and through community surveys and tours of the Town’s facilities, neighborhoods and public safety operations.

March 2025
A kick-off workshop, hosted by town staff, included the facilitator’s presentation of local government factors and parameters as well as participant input.

April 2025
At the April 22 Town Commission pre-meeting workshop, the facilitator presented preliminary findings and entertained public discussion and “Q&A” to gather input and perceptions from our residents and interested parties.

Next Steps

The Town’s facilitator will present a Strategic Plan update and summary at an upcoming Town Commission meeting. Stay tuned for next steps and please join us to participate and let your voice be heard for the future direction of LBTS!
