My earliest fond memory of LBTS is when as a former small, Ohio-town guy stationed in the NAVY, in Pensacola– the spring break that Connie Frances was filming in 1960 near the ELBO Room– I had to come here to find a room and discover the perfect small town on the ocean. Then visiting twice a year from then on to my retiring as an Ohio teacher in 1991 to be here for the "Rest of my Life" as a former beach bum...HAPPY BIRTHDAY Lauderdale-By-The-Sea, a truly unique place with this year's Three Best Beaches in Florida.

We married and bought our first home in LBTS 40 years ago. Our three kids grew up playing at Friedt Park and working at LaSpada’s, Ocean 101, and Kilwins. How fortunate they were to grow up here. Now empty nesters in the same home, we will never leave.

Me and my husband Vinny are from NJ, and our 1st dinner date visiting LBTS 40 years ago was at SeaWatch. We came back every year and bought a condo in town three years ago. Vinny passed away nine months ago, but my children and I stay in town every month. It’s a great place to be and the memories of our visits will always be with me.

14 years ago, tired of the snow and the chaos of DC living, I chucked it all - my house, my job, and everything I "knew" and moved to Florida. I was looking to rent and the housing market was scant. My then-boyfriend found a small house near the beach, and I told him to rent it, sight unseen. That house turned out to be in Lauderdale-By-The-Sea on Terra Mar Island. I told him, "I don't know what this place is, but I HAVE to live here!" Two years later we found a house on the island on the water with beach rights, and we never looked back. In 2015 we married on the beach surrounded by family and friends. I live in paradise, love my town, love the people, love the activities. I love the town motto, "Relax, you're here," because even though I am still working, I do Relax knowing I am HERE.

I met my (now wife) when we both bought condos at Top of the Mile in 2001. We hung out at all of the great places in LBTS. Aruba, Mulligans (the old one where 101 is now), Village Pump, Blue Moon, etc. etc. A few years later I proposed to her on the beach at Lauderdale by the Sea. Married 17 years.

When my husband and I got married in 2001 we had our ceremony on Deerfield beach. We choose to go to Benihana in LBS for dinner afterward and walked the town. We went back to Connecticut and started life together and had a family. years later we decided we were done with the snow and ice of the Northeast and wanted to move to florida. My husband had to prepare and sit for the BAR exam in Florida before we could even think about packing up and relocating. In 2014 from our bed on a snowy winter night we found a house across the street from the beach and bought it sight unseen. We have lived here now for 10 years. Built a new home on the land of the house we bought, and my husband has a law firm on the Basin on E Tradewinds. We love it here! Best decision we ever made.

We moved to Lauderdale By The Sea 37 years ago for a new job, retired 24 years ago and stayed in the same lovely home and location.

"When I was young, my mom and I used to go to LBTS. We stayed at the Sea Queen Motel, which I believe was where El Prado Park is now. There was another girl my age staying at the motel. One night, we were sitting on the wall to the beach, by the pool, when we saw a black line moving down the sand to the water. Being curious, we jumped down to the beach and realized that this black line was newly hatched sea turtles! We sat there watching them for quite a while until they all made it to the water. It's something I'll never forget! Every year, when I'm there, I look at the turtle nests to see the "estimated hatch" dates, hoping that I'll be able to see that again. It was magical!"

"We visited LBTS for the first time on April 2019 and we fall in love. We are from Buenos Aires, Argentina and that town has been our summer vacation from that time. We love LBTS, especially the lovely Breakaway inn Hotel at Poinciana St."

I remember when we were kids growing up here, living by Holy Cross Hospital, we would ride our bicycles to Commercial Blvd. to the Intercoastal and put our fishing poles and bikes on inner tubes and swim across Intercoastal as there was no bridge and spend the weekend fishing on Anglin's Pier.

We slept on the pier all weekend and fished. We would go diving and catch beautiful tropical fish for our aquariums or sell them to the pet shops for a few cents. We caught cobia sharks, dolphin, you name it. Then we had all those fish that would come in to beach. Even caught lobsters on the shore when they were crawling. We would have dove shoots just on the west side of the Intercoastal where Bay Colony is now.

The ocean and even the Intercoastal was clear, clean, and beautiful. Too bad at that age we took all that natural beauty for granted because not a day goes by now that I don't recall how beautiful it was. I could go on and on but don't want to sound like some old fart.

In 1999, while looking for a place for the weekends while living in Pompano Beach, we found LBTS.

It was Key West without the long drive, Mack’s Groves on the corner of A1A, friendly and welcoming residents and businesses, happy tourists coming to the El Mar hotels, Aruba Beach Cafe, easy walking to everything along with many entries on to the beach and a real community all wrapped up in a low- rise throwback of simpler times.

Not long after becoming LBTS owners we sold our house in Pompano Beach to be full time residents due to all we experienced here!
