BROWARD SHERIFF'S OFFICE

The professional police personnel who work for the the Broward Sheriff's Office are responsible for the enforcement of all municipal and state laws in the Town of Lauderdale-By-The-Sea. Chief Oscar Llerena provides the leadership for a staff of almost 30 law enforcement employees, including 19 sworn deputies, three sergeants, an executive lieutenant and a district chief.

BSO's Lauderdale-By-The-Sea headquarters is in the Town's Public Safety Complex at 4513 Ocean Drive (just north of Jarvis Hall). The Town operated its own Police Department until March 2001, when it contracted with BSO to provide hometown police services. The Town renewed its contract with BSO in 2011.

The Broward Sheriff's Office takes pride in serving the Town with integrity, as well as its close working relationships with residents, the business community and Town Hall.

The Citizen Observer Patrol (COP) is a great program where residents volunteer to help the police and their community. For more info, click COP. To download an application to become a member of the COP program, click here.
